Where we go behind the scenes, sharing ideas and experiences in genealogy and family history.

One of the challenges of writing a family history website is to strike a balance between factual information and personal experience. While the result of my research may be helpful to readers, the story of how it was obtained is often more interesting and sometimes more valuable.

This is where a blog fits the bill. Its informality invites the sharing of experiences, including research failures and successes that would clutter up ordinary web pages. And its structure encourages audience participation - highly appropriate in any study of family history.

How to participate

To comment on blog posts, you only need to become a Schmitts-of-Hatten website member by entering your email address and password on the login page. Although members can't presently create blog posts, I've also opened a Forum where you can create original posts and upload images. Being a member also entitles you to your own profile page, seen only by other members.
